AUTOWORKS
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
## Build the automotive company history forgot to make.
AUTOWORKS is a car company tycoon and engineering sandbox where you build a manufacturer, develop new technologies, design vehicles and compete across more than a century of automotive history.
Start as early as 1900 and decide what kind of company you want to create.
Will you build cheap cars for the masses?
Luxury grand tourers?
Experimental performance cars?
Or spend absurd amounts of money developing technology decades before the rest of the industry?
## Research changes what you can build
AUTOWORKS currently includes a large technology system with hundreds of research nodes covering:
- Engines
- Forced induction
- Fuel systems
- Transmissions
- Suspension
- Brakes
- Body construction
- Materials
- Aerodynamics
- Safety
- Electronics
- Comfort
- Electric and hybrid technology
- Manufacturing
Technology does not simply unlock automatically because the calendar changed.
Your company has to research it.
You can even attempt technologies before their historical maturity — but doing so becomes increasingly expensive, difficult and risky.
## Design your own vehicles
Choose the body, engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, interior and other major systems of your cars.
Different eras and technologies restrict what you can realistically build.
Your engineering decisions affect:
- Cost
- Performance
- Weight
- Comfort
- Reliability
- Production
- Market appeal
## Run the company
Research alone does not pay the bills.
Develop vehicles, put them into production, sell them, invest the profits and compete with AI manufacturers.
Different starting countries, eras and company sizes create different campaigns.
## Current version — AUTOWORKS 1.0.0
This is the first public development build.
Current highlights:
- 322 research nodes
- Historical technology restrictions
- Early R&D and experimental technology
- Multiple vehicle body families
- Procedural 3D vehicles
- Company economy and market simulation
- AI manufacturers
- Save/load support
- Long-term campaign simulation
- Casual, Balanced and Realism difficulty modes
## Where this is going
AUTOWORKS is still under active development.
Major planned systems include:
- Much deeper vehicle engineering
- A significantly larger research tree
- Detailed engine construction
- Improved procedural vehicle models
- X-ray vehicle packaging
- Manufacturing and factory technology
- Engine audio simulation
- Supplier systems
- Improved AI competitors
- BeamNG.drive vehicle export
The goal is not simply to make another car tycoon.
The goal is to let you build a car company, invent its technology, engineer its vehicles, and eventually drive the same machines you created.
## Free to play
AUTOWORKS is currently completely free.
If you enjoy the project and want to support development, optional donations are appreciated — but not required.
## Feedback
This is an active development build, so bugs and unfinished systems are expected.
If something breaks, feels confusing, looks bad, or you have an idea that would make the game better, leave a comment.
I read the feedback.
